Walmart Marketplace has adopted a rule under which seller accounts inactive for 455 consecutive days may be suspended, according to a release note dated October 22. A day earlier, Walmart announced that sellers can use inventory stored in Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) to fulfill orders placed on their Shopify stores.

The inactivity rule

The October 22 release note says accounts inactive for 455 consecutive days may be suspended under Walmart’s Trust and Safety policy. Walmart will notify sellers by email and SMS before any suspension. Sellers whose accounts are suspended for inactivity have 90 days to appeal and request reactivation, and accounts that remain suspended without a resolved appeal may be terminated, the note says.

The updated Trust and Safety policy, also dated October 22, defines what counts as inactive: “Inactivity includes no sales, no Seller Center logins or API usage through the Developer Portal.” The policy lists dormant accounts alongside other grounds for action, such as listings that infringe intellectual property rights, offensive items, and items that do not comply with local, state or federal laws and regulations.

WFS inventory for Shopify orders

The October 21 release note says Walmart’s Multichannel Solutions (MCS) service can now be reached from the Shopify admin. Sellers can use existing WFS inventory to fulfill Shopify orders automatically, and orders ship in unbranded packaging. The note says MCS also fulfills orders from Amazon, eBay, Temu and TikTok Shop, and that the integration automates fulfillment, inventory updates and tracking information. Setup involves installing the Multichannel Solutions app from the Shopify App Store and connecting a Walmart Marketplace account through prompts in the Shopify admin.

Walmart’s integration guide, last updated October 9, sets out the requirements and mechanics:

  • Eligibility: an active Walmart Seller Center account with WFS enabled, matching GTINs and SKUs in Shopify and Walmart, and active inventory at WFS.
  • Setup: connect the account, create or connect the Shopify sales channel, map items (the app maps automatically by GTIN and SKU, with manual mapping for unmatched items), and create a shipping profile. The guide says all steps must be completed before orders can be processed through Shopify.
  • Shipping speeds: Standard, at three to five business days, and Expedited, at two business days. These are the only two speeds supported.
  • Inventory sync: automatic every hour, with a manual sync option for high-volume sales or large inventory updates.
  • Routing: orders can flow automatically to MCS or be routed manually. Sellers who want MCS to fulfill first can set a ranked-location rule in Shopify’s order routing settings. Orders do not route to MCS if WFS inventory is unavailable or if products are not assigned to the MCS location.
  • Returns: created in Shopify through a “Create Walmart channel returns” action, with return labels downloadable from the order details page.

The guide does not list fees for the service, and the release note does not mention pricing.

Other October changes

The same release notes page lists several other seller-facing updates this month. On October 21, Walmart added Search themes to its Search insights tool, grouping related customer searches by a shared need and showing keywords, frequency ranks, trending queries and top competing items. On October 20, UPS Ground Saver rates became available in Ship with Walmart for eligible lightweight domestic packages. On October 19, Walmart let eligible brand owners add Brand Highlights, with images, video and text, to product pages for up to 500 items at a time, and introduced new automotive product types, with legacy types planned for retirement in early 2027. On October 13, it added eight parcel carriers for seller-fulfilled orders.

Why it matters

For sellers who list on Walmart Marketplace occasionally or keep an account open without selling, the inactivity rule creates a clock. Under the policy’s definition, an account with no sales, no Seller Center logins and no Developer Portal API usage for 455 days may be suspended, and an unresolved suspension may end in termination.

The Shopify link extends Walmart’s fulfillment network to orders that do not originate on Walmart.com. Sellers already storing goods in WFS can fill orders from their own Shopify storefront out of the same inventory, provided their GTINs and SKUs match across both systems. Walmart’s guide limits the service to two shipping speeds and notes that shoppers see only the shipping options a seller configures at checkout, so it advises checking that shipping names and delivery speeds are mapped correctly before going live.

What to watch

Sellers weighing the Shopify integration will need fee details from Walmart, since neither the release note nor the integration guide lists them. For order problems, the guide directs sellers to Walmart Seller Support or their account representative, with the Multichannel Order ID from the Shopify order timeline. Sellers with dormant accounts can check their status against the policy’s definition of inactivity before the 455-day mark is reached.
